Minimalistic Stairs

Stairway to a Dashing Gentleman

Every individual has a unique story to share about achieving goals. Many of them are making every effort to advance in their profession. Some continue their schooling, while others participate in training. Whatever line of business you choose, you must begin as a nobody and work your way up to being somebody.

The transformation from a civilian to a dashing gentleman is a process that involves a change in behavior, attitude, and mindset. A civilian may be an ordinary person who goes about their daily life without paying too much attention to their appearance, behavior, or manners. However, a gentleman is someone who presents himself with grace, confidence, and dignity, both in public and private settings. To become a gentleman, one must start by developing a set of positive character traits such as humility, respect, and integrity, which are essential for building strong relationships and earning the respect of others.

Another important aspect of the transformation from civilian to dashing gentleman is developing good manners and social skills. This involves learning how to communicate effectively, listening actively, and being mindful of one's body language and tone of voice. A gentleman also pays attention to his personal grooming and attire, ensuring that he is well-dressed and presentable at all times. Furthermore, a gentleman cultivates an appreciation for culture and the arts and engages in activities that enrich his mind and spirit. By making these changes, a civilian can transform into a dashing gentleman, earning the admiration and respect of those around him.

Being a Cadet offers the opportunity to climb the leadership ladder. You must step through challenges and struggles as a plebe before you can ascend that ladder and eventually become an immaculate or dashing gentleman, as Rita Gatourey said, "be like a diamond, precious and rare, not like a stone that is found everywhere."

There are four "tions" in a cadet's life: reception, incorporation, recognition, and graduation. First is the reception, which some thought was a feast, but unfortunately, during reception rites, new cadets were tasked with performing a series of exercises under the sun to test their endurance. Some Cadets got surprised by the reception rites and quit, but most of them accepted it and endured the exhaustion. Second is the incorporation, where after the 45-day break period, the new cadets will be joining the cadet corps. The New Cadets will now live with their upperclassmen as brothers and sisters in their respective assigned companies. The third is recognition. That simple yet long-awaited, hard-earned, and earnestly yearned handshake by a plebe with the upper-class Tears fell as all their struggles and hardships as plebes paid off. Lastly, there is graduation. The very dream of every cadet is to graduate from this prestigious institution. All the blood, tears, and sweat that shredded every Cadet's life will turn into an achievement. It is very overwhelming and a blessing that one has conquered and endured all the trying times of being a cadet, making him proud of himself. The long wait is worth it because one can now taste the sweetness of success after savoring the bitterness of struggles and challenges.

INTRAMURALS

"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships" -       Michael Jordan.

Sports can also develop important social skills such as leadership and communication. Team sports require players to work together towards a common goal, and individual sports promote self-discipline and personal accountability. Sports offer an opportunity to develop new friendships and connections, often bringing people from different backgrounds together. They also provide a platform for athletes to represent their country or team and compete against others, fostering a sense of national pride and unity.

Intramurals are organized sports activities that take place within a specific institution or organization, usually between different teams or groups. These activities are designed to promote physical fitness, social interaction, and healthy competition among participants. Intramurals can take various forms, such as team sports like basketball, soccer, and volleyball, or individual events like running and swimming races.

This offer several benefits to participants, including the opportunity to stay active and maintain good health, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and build new friendships and social connections. These activities also provide a fun and engaging way for people to relieve stress and improve their overall well-being. Intramurals can be particularly beneficial for students, as they allow them to balance their academic workload with physical activity and social engagement. Furthermore, intramurals can help foster a sense of community and school spirit as participants represent their school or organization in friendly competition.

Intramurals in the Academy provide an opportunity for cadets to engage in physical activity and friendly competition while also promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. These events can help build school spirit and a sense of community, as well as improve Cadets' physical and mental health. In addition, intramurals can serve as a platform to identify and develop talented athletes who may go on to represent the Academy in inter-school competitions. Overall, intramurals are a valuable component of the academy experience, offering cadets a chance to have fun, stay active, and build important life skills.

Sportsmanship is an essential quality that encompasses fair play, respect, and a positive attitude toward others in the world of sports. It involves being gracious, respectful, and considerate towards opponents, teammates, coaches, and referees. A sportsman or sportswoman embodies these values in their conduct, regardless of the outcome of the game. It is an essential quality that should be embraced by all players, coaches, and officials in the world of sports. It promotes fairness, respect, and a positive attitude toward others and ultimately contributes to a positive and healthy environment for all involved. This trait is embodied by the Cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy.

                      THE PATRIOTIC 44

Patriotism is unwavering trust in our nation. You are aware of the ideas that you adhere to and according to which our nation was formed. You persevere simply because something isn't developing the way you want it to. You believe our nation will return to the righteous path after veering away from it. To sacrifice is to give up something you value and possess to pursue the happiness of others. A sacrifice may be made to uphold a religious or ceremonial principle. Some people are always willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of others.

The SAF 44 serves is a reminder of the selfless sacrifices made by our law enforcement personnel. Additionally, it emphasizes the necessity of improved coordination and communication between various government institutions as well as the significance of placing a high priority on the well-being of our troops.

Every 25th day of January, the PNPA commemorates the patriotism and courage of the SAF 44 heroes who sacrificed their lives in the performance of their duty. The incident also underscores the ongoing challenge of achieving lasting peace in Mindanao, where decades-long conflicts have claimed countless lives and resulted in the displacement of many communities. It highlights the importance of pursuing a comprehensive and inclusive peace process that addresses the root causes of the conflict and involves all stakeholders.

We are fortunate that we have members of the organization who are willing to die for their country. I was inspired by their stories, where they showed courage, camaraderie, and patriotism during the encounter. I realized that sacrificing oneself for the benefit of all is the noblest thing a police officer could do. This story just showed that at times, while we are having a peaceful sleep at night, there is a uniformed officer out there fighting and willing to die to ensure that we will certainly have a peaceful sleep.

The patriotism should serve as a call to action for all Filipinos to work towards a better and more just society where the sacrifices of our heroes are honored and their families are taken care of. It is up to us to ensure that the lives lost in Mamasapano will not be in vain and that their legacy will live on in the fight for a safer, more peaceful, and prosperous Philippines.
